We’re in the Top 50 of the UK’s Best 100 Small Companies 2021!

Just two weeks ago we tuned into Best Companies Live to hear Dan Walker of BBC fame announce our listing; not only in the Top 100 Best Companies to Work For, but also in the Top 50 at number 49!

To say we were absolutely delighted would be an understatement. This prestigious annual list, in previous years published by The Sunday Times, is based on rigorous and in-depth analysis of company data including an anonymous and independent employee survey conducted by Best Companies.

Speaking for the leadership team, Head of Contract Europe, Andrew Manion said, “It is no surprise to me that Empiric has been selected for this award. I’ve been with the business for 10 months and can only speak positively as to the culture that everyone works to uphold. Empiric has a reputation across the industry for being a best-in-class employer and this award just serves as validation. I love working for a business that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to friends and family.”

Empiric is all about being part of an exciting, unique, and inclusive technology recruitment company whose mission to be number one in Data, Security, Cloud, and Digital is underpinned by the business values of Search, Service, Relationships, Ambition, Character, and Team Work.

As our teams continue to expand globally, we reflect on some of the initiatives that made Empiric selected as an Outstanding Company To Work For.

Putting employees first

Even before the pandemic shut down offices and forced workers home, Empiric had always valued and invested in employee well-being with initiatives such as yoga workout sessions and extra long lunch breaks to enable people to exercise. During the pandemic, these took on even more importance as did Learning and Development.

The leadership team recognised that where the close team-working culture had been disrupted, the company needed to invest even more in communication, and in the training and development of its now remote staff. So, Empiric hired a new Trainer to join the company.

Focusing specifically on the changed needs of consultants, each month was themed around an activity that needed focus, and was followed up with coaching, competitions and constant data analysis and improvement, all via the use of remote training sessions. Managers and L&D worked collaboratively to ensure the consultants were accessing the training or coaching they needed to be successful, and to continue their career development, even in a 24/7 lockdown.

Celebrating diversity

Promoted culturally throughout the company, Empiric is a Disability Confident member and a Stonewall Diversity Champion. However, D&I is not just a paper-based, HR policy; it is part of the ethos of the business and is reflected from the ground up.

Staff arrange their own practices to share with their colleagues which are supported, promoted and paid for by Empiric. For example, prior to the full-time, working-from-home pandemic response, parents and carers that needed time out of the business to deal with home-related issues, were able to work flexibly.

Further flexible and even reduced hours are provided to our colleagues during Ramadan, meeting spaces are turned into prayer rooms during religious festivals, our Jewish teammates are encouraged to leave the office well before sunset for Shabbat, and all staff enjoy the festival foods of Diwali.

Alcohol-free, family outings are also funded by Empiric so that everyone can come together on an equitable playing ground and simply be themselves.

Supporting our clients

A business can only thrive if clients are treated with the same care and dedication as its employees. At Empiric, companies and candidates make up our client base and after the 2018 UK Autumn budget, the process of changing the off-payroll working rules, IR35, commenced, affecting hundreds of candidates and businesses.

Empiric responded quickly, pivoting the UK areas of the business affected by these impending rules to create a ‘Best of Breed’ solution with a service-based engagement model. Working closely with clients and candidates to prepare them for the April 2021 cut-off date, our service went above and beyond the traditional recruitment model.

Agility, flexibility and a dedication to client service meant Empiric was able to provide more than just a solution to a problem; the proposition ended up bridging a gap in both the tech talent market and Empiric’s business, and over the last year has been the fastest growing part of the company.
